Don\u2019t normalise it!<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Bullying happens when a person or a group of people repeatedly and intentionally use words or actions to cause distress and harm to another person\u2019s wellbeing.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0It definitely isn\u2019t the same as a \u2018normal\u2019 conflict between people (such as having an argument or a fight) or simply disliking someone. It\u2019s more about repeated behaviour by someone who has power or control over someone else.<\/span><\/p><h3><b>What does it look like?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bullying can and does happen anywhere and everywhere: be it in schools, at home, at work, or in the all pervasive online social spaces, such as text messages, emails, or posts on Instagram, Facebook or other social media sites. It can range from being of the physical, verbal and\/or emotional kinds.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is really about someone intimidating or exercising control over someone else in a way that makes them feel afraid or embarrassed.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2ccb7c5 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"2ccb7c5\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0d0d81e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0d0d81e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>CYBERBULLYING<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the proliferation and pervasiveness of the internet in all corners of the world and its resultant connectivity and influence, we\u2019re increasingly witnessing the harm it can cause.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cyberbullying, or online bullying, is a form of bullying that\u2019s done by means of technology &#8211; for example, using the internet or a mobile phone to hurt, harass or embarrass someone.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyberbullying can occur through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in social media, forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content. Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or mean content about someone else. It can include sharing personal or private information about someone else causing intentional embarrassment or humiliation. Some forms of cyberbullying can even cross the line into unlawful or criminal behavior and people found to have done this, have been arrested<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have seen cyberbullying occurring in places such as:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social Media, such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Tik Tok<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Text messaging and messaging apps on mobile or tablet devices<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instant messaging, direct messaging, and online chatting over the internet<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Online forums, chat rooms, and message boards, such as Reddit<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Email<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Online gaming communities<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the prevalence of social media and digital forums, comments, photos, posts, and content shared by individuals can often be viewed by strangers as well as acquaintances. The content an individual shares online \u2013 both their personal content as well as any negative, mean, or hurtful content \u2013 creates a kind of permanent public record of their views, activities, and behavior. This public record can be thought of as an online reputation, which may be accessible to schools, employers, colleges, clubs, and others who may be researching an individual now or in the future. Cyberbullying can harm the online reputations of everyone involved \u2013 not just the person being bullied, but those doing the bullying or participating in it. Cyberbullying has unique concerns in that it can be:<\/span><\/p><p><b>Persistent \u2013 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital devices offer an ability to immediately and continuously communicate 24 hours a day, so it can be difficult for children experiencing cyberbullying to find relief.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Permanent \u2013<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Most information communicated electronically is permanent and public, if not reported and removed. A negative online reputation, including for those who bully, can impact college admissions, employment, and other areas of life.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Hard to Notice \u2013<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Because teachers and parents may not overhear or see cyberbullying taking place, it is harder to recognize.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Face-to face bullying and cyberbullying can often happen alongside each other. But cyberbullying leaves a digital footprint \u2013 a record that can prove useful and provide evidence to help stop the abuse.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5053971 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"5053971\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-744b6de elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"744b6de\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><b>What are the effects of cyberbullying?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When bullying happens online it can feel as if you\u2019re being attacked everywhere, even inside your own home. It can seem like there\u2019s no escape. The effects can last a long time and affect a person in many ways:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Mentally<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 feeling upset, embarrassed, stupid, even angry<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Emotionally<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 feeling ashamed or losing interest in the things you love<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Physically<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 tired (loss of sleep), or experiencing symptoms like stomach aches and headaches<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The feeling of being laughed at or harassed by others, can prevent people from speaking up or trying to deal with the problem. In extreme cases, cyberbullying can even lead to people taking their own lives.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cyberbullying can affect us in many ways. But these can be overcome and people can regain their confidence and health<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aa3a22d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"aa3a22d\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-58eb788 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"58eb788\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><b>Am I being bullied online? How do you tell the difference between a joke and bullying?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All friends joke around with each other, but sometimes it\u2019s hard to tell if someone is just having fun or trying to hurt you, especially online. Sometimes they\u2019ll laugh it off with or \u201cdon\u2019t take it so seriously.\u201d But if you feel hurt or think others are laughing at you instead of with you, then the joke has gone too far. If it continues even after you\u2019ve asked the person to stop and you are still feeling upset about it, then this could be bullying.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the bullying takes place online, it can result in unwanted attention from a wide range of people including strangers. Wherever it may happen, if you are not happy about it, you should not have to stand for it. Call it what you will \u2013 if you feel bad and it doesn\u2019t stop, then it\u2019s worth getting help. Your boss can fire, transfer, demote or discipline you, as long as they have a good reason. Sometimes it\u2019s perfectly legitimate for your manager to criticise your performance, if you haven\u2019t been doing well or your work is up for review. It\u2019s their job to manage the quality of your work.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Who&#8217;s responsible for stopping workplace bullying?<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At work, employers have a responsibility to provide a safe workplace, which means one that&#8217;s free of bullying. This means that by law if you report bullying behaviour, your employer has to go through a proper process for handling your complaint.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you see someone in the workplace being bullied, you also have the opportunity to help.
